Our water-to-air heat pump (we call it the R Series) has been a staple of our product line for decades. It’s one of the simplest geothermal heat pumps on the market today, and is a great option for home renovations or replacing an outdated forced air furnace and air conditioning system.
Because the R Series is one of our staple products, we always make sure it has the latest features and functionality that you’re looking for in a heat pump. In fact, last year we redesigned our R Series heat pump to incorporate some new features that make it the best water-to-air heat pump available today. Check out this short video where our product engineer, Dan Rheault, explains some of the features we’ve incorporated:
Our Water-to-Air Heat Pump
The reason the R Series heat pump is so popular is because it’s ideal for homes that are being renovated and replacing older, inefficient heating and cooling systems that use forced air ductwork. Since the R Series has the same distribution system (it heats air for ducted heating and cools air for central air conditioning), you can usually use the same original ductwork in the home, with a few modifications.
As a bonus, the R Series heat pump is also equipped with a desuperheater for heating domestic hot water. It can make free domestic hot water while in the cooling mode, and highly efficient hot water in the heating mode. Our R Series unit has been redesigned to have the smallest footprint in the industry, measuring just 24 inches wide and 28 inches deep. This small footprint makes it easy to maneuver in and out of a home, making the installation process a breeze. We also continue to make the R Series in a horizontal cabinet for situations where overhead space is at a premium, and in a split version to connect to an existing air handler. This extra flexibility can come in handy in older homes with low basement ceilings.
Even though we’ve slimmed down the design, we didn’t sacrifice performance. You can still expect a top of industry coefficient of performance (COP) from 3.7 to 4.9 in heating mode (the COP varies with operating conditions). This means you could save up to 75% on your heating costs. If you’re looking to qualify for energy efficiency grants, you’ll be happy to know that the new R Series, like all of our heat pumps, is ENERGY STAR® rated.
